One of the most celebrated designs in automotive history, the “Gullwing” was also the fastest production car of its time. Mr. Lauren is among the select few of auto collectors who own one.

The “SL” stands for sport leicht—or sport light. Its ultralight, multi-tubular chassis houses the first 3.0-liter engine to use fuel injection, achieving a top speed of 161 mph.
