It ended up being more of a "black" scent than I expected once it settled in (think black pepper, black leather, sort of a much more enticing version of, say, Bod "Black" or Car Air Freshener "Black"), tying into the "Polo Blue" freshy haze mostly just in the opening. It is somewhat deeper and dark than I expected. However, not a bad thing at all. It's not such a level of mature that it could only be for church or an aged gentleman. Instead, it retains a little sportyness that keeps it stylish and overall well-suited for my street-style take on Polo / Polo Assn wear. Performance is strong. It's a step down in strength from an Elixir by other brands being a Parfum, but this step back was exactly what I was searching for to be just a little less overwhelming. And for the small bottle, the price made it worth it to order direct from the official website, it came in a week and a weekend later, and I feel like it was a really good deal.
