The are more slim than typical elastic belted pants, but you still have plenty of room to move. The fabric is lightweight, so you'd need tights underneath for winter wear. My only complaint is the alpha-size doesn't align with the size chart. The chart states Large is 36-38" waist. However, I had a very difficult time pulling them on, so I purchased the XL too. The XL fit how I expected the L to fit. I'm not a curvy guy, and I wear 36x30 in my dozen other Polo pants. (I tried on some Polo L shorts at a store and had the same issue with it not fitting).
