They ward off a chill, yet have a weight I don't find excessive. I wear them over a wrinkle-free dress shirt, so if my checked luggage gets lost or delayed, I can get along for a few days. Also, if it rains, i can use the hood for a short-term transition to or from the plane. I have these in various colors.
