Maestra Tassel Calfskin Loafer is rated out of 5 by 5.Rated 5 out of 5 by justpruitt from Best RTW Loafers These are the best off-the-shelf loaders I’ve ever owned. They look great, are well made, and have help up beautifully. The Maestra is an upgrade from the top two U.S.-based shoemakers IMO, and I think you’d have to buy custom to get a better quality shoe. As for size, they fit like an Italian shoe in my experience, which is to say a bit narrow. I have the same size in the old Booth suede loafers, and the heel is narrow in this one. For reference, I usually wear a B or C width in RTW loafers and the Maestra D, in my normal size, fits almost perfectly. If you e ever owned the Verona II bit loafer, these are just a touch wider. The length is about standard, maybe falling just a bit short but not much. I recommend trying them on if possible before committing. (You may want to try a 1/2 size up or down, depending on foot width. The break-in period isn’t as long as I thought, but the leather is high quality, shoe is Goodyear welted, and sole has the thickness of being double-oaked — so there is some break-in, as you’d expect. In my experience, the shoes felt better after just 1 wear, much better after 4, and after 5 or 6 wears they were still softening but walked easy and didn’t rub at all. I dress them up and down, with pants and shorts, and I wear them often without socks. Finally, I’d recommend the good shoe polish (the French stuff, without mentioning brands) and cedar shoe trees. The leather is so freakin hard on these. Ralph Lauren needs to change its manufacturer for all its leather shoes.
