The Life and Times of Gurney’s
Fresh off a yearslong renovation, the storied Montauk hotel celebrates 100 years of sun, sand, and revelry.
A Savory Start
Maude and Warren Gurney in the Gurney’s dining room in 1932. Before adding 20 guest rooms to create a full-service hotel, the couple built the restaurant (right) as a culinary destination.
Rooms With a View

Current Assets
When it opened in 1980, the hotel’s Seawater Spa was the first of its kind in the US, pumping water directly from its Montauk surf into its indoor pools.
A Legend Reborn
The final stage of the hotel’s renovation was a complete revamp of its original restaurant. Renamed Gigi’s, for two of its former owners, Maude Gurney and George Filopoulos, the new restaurant focuses on local provisions, from fresh Montauk catches to produce from nearby farms.
