Much like New York, Ralph Lauren’s hometown, these truly iconic pieces are timeless. Together they make up the essential foundation of a Polo wardrobe, made to last and to get better with timeNamed for its popularity among polo players, who draped the jacket over their shoulders to keep warm between matches, Ralph’s iteration accentuates its authentic details—top-stitching, patch pockets, belted back—and perfects the color of the custom-woven camel hair it’s made with.
Made in Italy with a wool herringbone fabric woven in Ireland exclusively for Polo, this blazer features the same modifications—a throatlatch on the lapel, bellows pockets, suede elbow patches—found on one of Ralph’s favorite jackets, one he had made in the 1970s and has worn ever since.
Our cable-knit sweater is a Polo staple that goes all the way back to 1973. Though the way Ralph styles it, it always looks fresh, never the same. One thing that hasn’t changed is the quality—100 percent pure Italian cashmere— or the seamless way this sweater is knit together. It’s called hand-linking, which gives the piece an unmistakably attractive shape and a feel you’ll never forget.
The cloth we use to make our chinos has the weight of workwear, the feel it won’t just survive but get better with time. But the style has the refinement of English tailoring: double pleats that give it a look of casual ease; a coin pocket, because small details matter; and the elegant finish of a center back binding.
The Polo oxford begins with the bead—the balance of the weave between colored and white thread. We also give it a secret wash. Together, this gives the shirt instant character, ease, and a heathered softness—what we call the perfect “rumple.” Our oxford shirt also has unique details that evoke its prep-school inspiration.
