Adventure Prep

This Fall, prep style breaks free of the campus and the city and heads for the North Woods, land of rugged individualism. Here’s your five-point field guide to looking great in a new frontier.

Rule No. 3

Turn Up the Volume

Whether you’re in the woods or in the city, hi-vis looks are key.

Maximalism is most associated with preppy style, but its full-tilt energy translates to outdoors-inspired wear, too. By introducing busy patterns like Fair Isle to fleece, a new boldness is introduced to an aesthetic that already includes eye-catching pieces like primary-color puffers and camouflage prints. The key, as ever, is to temper the loudest statements with more quiet neutrals or subdued colors in between.
